Devonport Heritage Villa: Creating a dialogue between history and nature

Perched proudly on the slopes of one of Auckland’s most significant mountains, this grand heritage villa is defined by generous proportions, beautiful architectural details, and a strong sense of history. Our client’s open brief was to create an interior that felt luxurious and distinctive, while honouring the character and grandeur of the existing home. With expansive open-plan rooms, the challenge was to create a sense of definition and purpose within each space, with the kitchen forming the heart of the home. Designed to be as considered and elegant as the rooms it connects, the kitchen balances a sense of grandeur with the refined functionality required for contemporary family life.

Throughout the home, we sought to create a seamless relationship between the interiors, the magnificent gardens, and our client’s exceptional art collection, thoughtfully gathered over many years. The colour, scale, and energy of the artwork became an important source of inspiration, informing a palette of rich, expressive tones and layered materials. With a desire to create impact, we shaped spaces that feel confident and individual, while remaining sympathetic to the architecture and allowing the original character of the home to remain at the forefront.
